IJAN -- Who We Are

IJAN – Who We Are

Welcome to the Imam Jamil Action Network!  We are an organization dedicated, through social activism and raising public awareness, to the release and exoneration of one of the greatest world historical figures and prominent contemporary leaders in the United States, Imam Jamil Al-Amin, formerly known as "H. Rap Brown" of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee of the 1960's.

Imam Jamil is a prolific author and thinker.  Books he is known best for penning are “Die Nigger Die” and "Revolution by the Book." He has lectured at Howard University in the late 1980s.  Imam Jamil has devoted his life towards improving and advancing the civil and human rights for Blacks and others in the United States, and conveying God's message of brotherly love for all of humanity.  He has toiled tirelessly and fearlessly on behalf of all of us!  He has been targeted and harassed by the U.S. government for close to 40 years for being a freedom fighter. We should support him because we are convinced that he is unjustly incarcerated.

In March 2000, Imam Jamil Al-Amin was wrongly accused of and then arrested for the Atlanta shootings which subsequently led to the death of an Atlanta police officer.

In the fall of 2002, Hodari Abdul Ali, a long standing supporter of Imam Jamil, and Imam Khalil Abdur-Rahman began laying the foundation to form the Imam Jamil Action Network (IJAN) to build broad-based support to exonerate and win the release of Imam Jamil and to work for the emancipation and the exoneration of other U.S. political prisoners

IJAN strongly believes that it is a moral obligation for all people of good will to support this living legend.  He is truly the living link to Al-Hajj Malik Al-Shabazz and others who have paved the way for us to be able to be proud of our African, Anglo, and Islamic heritage.  We firmly believe that he is innocent as charged, and that now is the time to get to "working to free Imam Jamil Al-Amin!"
